What is erythrocyte fatty acids profile analysis?
The membranes of erythrocytes (red blood cells) are rich in fatty acids, and their composition directly reflects dietary lipid intake over a period of several months. The analysis enables us to quantify different categories of fatty acids: monounsaturated fatty acids, omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, saturated fatty acids, trans fatty acids, as well as the calculation of several indexes including the omega-6/omega-3 ratio.
